Design Brief: You are a couturier specializing in eveningwear. A celebrity known for her sartorial style has asked you to design a dress for her on the red carpet. Her only requirement is that the design must be strapless and appropriate for this specific event.
Design Problem: You will select the celebrity client (contemporary or historical) and a specific red carpet event for this project. You must design, pattern, and execute a strapless dress with a boned bodice for your individual client.
Custom eveningwear dress created for Apparel Design By Draping (FASH324). The celebrity client I chose is the extremely talented singer-songwriter, Ellie Goulding, and the event I chose is the BRIT Awards. My client is fun, feminine, and ethereal. I compiled a digital design journal on Pinterest to organize all the wonderful photographs I found of her during my research. The dress was draped first, then a muslin toile was created, after that paper patterns were made, and finally a fashion fabric prototype was created. This dress perfectly embodies Ellie Goulding and her eclectic style.
