FLUX
Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Technical flats
Flux is a concept collection of garments that explore the relationship between fashion and technology, as well as the past and the future. This collection was born as a way to assist in starting a conversation about climate change, specifically glaciers. The garments are dyed with indigo, which symbolizes the past, and removable 3D printed pieces symbolize the future. The most important part of these garments is the hardware, which includes electroluminescent wires that are connected to a sound activated inverter and battery pack. When a glacier calves off of an ice shelf, the next step in its life is to float into the ocean, where there's a good chance it will eventually melt. Hearing a glacier calve and then seeing the EL wires on the dress respond to it is unmistakable. These wires are responding to a specific sound, and that sound is glaciers dying, and those glaciers are dying because our climate is warming. This is happening, and we need to have a flux in our thinking before we can create a solution. We can make a huge difference and have a positive impact on the future of our planet and species, but we need to start taking action NOW.
