Holographic Hackathon

What an incredible experience!!

Spent 44 hours creating a mixed reality game for the Microsoft HoloLens with a team of 5 amazing people.

The weekend in a nutshell:
-Mixed Reality games built: 1
-Additional days I could have kept hacking: 2-3
-Food: 3 meals a day plus 24/7 snacks (ate way too much candy, surprised I didn't turn into a Reese's Cup!)
-Skills learned/practiced: 5
-Sleep: 5 hours (on the floor...but so comfy after hours upon hours of creating holograms)
-Friends made: many!
-Music: NYAN CAT ALL DAY, ERRY' DAY ^^

Can't believe it's been two weeks. This was one of the best experiences I've had recently. Not only was it an insane amount of fun, but I learned so much. Here are some helpful hackathon tips:

1. Bring a sleeping bag
2. Choose your team wisely, you'll be spending an entire day/weekend with them. Make sure you're a well balanced team skills-wise, and also won't want to kill each other if Nyan Cat is blasted at 3am or 9am.
3. Take the idea you want to build, and build the simplest possible version of it (building AR/VR/MR takes much more time than you'd think)
4. From the beginning, use one centralized platform for sharing assets
5. Just accept that Red Bull will probably be its own food group during the hackathon, but also don't forget to drink a ton of water!
6. If snacks are provided don't go too overboard on unhealthy snacks, such as candy/chips- you will feel sick and be temporarily distracted from the badass app/game/experience you're building
7. Do your research and any homework assigned to you before the hackathon
8. Bring comfy clothes and also shorts/tshirts, it will most likely get hot with a ton of people packed into one space for that long (it was hovering around 83 °F the whole weekend)
9. If there are any events organized before where you have the opportunity to meet potential team members, then GO- this is how I met my wonderful and ridiculously talented team!
10. Remember you aren't being graded, nobody is going to hate you if you ask a silly question or need help, you won't be fired if you don't completely finish, and most importantly- HAVE FUN :)
